James West founded Alamy in the year 1999 along with his uncle Mike Fischer. When they started the business, there were very few others who were in the same business and dominated the industry. They bring in images and videos for people. In the beginning, the problem they faced was to get more number of photographs, but then things changed and then slowly they were able to have many. At that time, commissions on the photographs favored agencies, but Alamy made sure that they gave away commission on 50/50 terms. In the last few years, the company has expanded and now they have offices in India and US. The headquarters of the company still remains at the same place where it all started.
